Silver at $500? This History-Based Chart Says the Biggest Rally May Still Be Ahead

A New Commodity Cycle?

Silver and the US stock market have gone through very different cycles over the past 70–80 years. Data from North Star shows that there have been periods when equities moved slowly or stayed flat, while commodities moved much faster. These cycles can last for 10–20 years.

This does not mean that stocks must fall or that only commodities will rise. It simply shows that commodity prices can perform much better than equities during certain long periods. Right now, the silver-to-US market ratio appears to be moving in a direction that is more favorable for commodities.

Silver Has Made Huge Moves Before

History shows why silver can be very interesting during a strong commodity cycle. During the major silver rally of the 1970s, silver increased around 16 times in dollar terms over about 10 years. The next major rally, from around 2001 to 2012, saw silver rise about seven times in 10–11 years. These were not small moves. They show that silver can move much faster than people expect when a full commodity cycle gets going.

The Current Rally May Still Be Young

The current silver rally started in 2025, and silver has already nearly doubled. But compared with the big moves seen in the past, this may still be a relatively early stage. It is hard for people to understand such large moves because we naturally think in a straight line. We understand things like 20% or 30% yearly returns more easily. But markets do not always move in a straight line. Some years can bring very large moves that are almost impossible to predict.

Could Silver Reach $200 or More?

Today, silver around $65 may make prices like $200, $300, $400 or even $500 look almost impossible. But history gives us a different picture. If silver starts from a base of around $30 and follows the kind of moves seen in earlier cycles, a five-to-ten-times increase would take it into a much higher range. Past rallies have seen silver rise around seven to 16 times over long periods. This does not mean these prices will definitely happen, but the possibility cannot be ignored when looking at past cycles.

Gold and Silver May Have More Room

A full commodity cycle can bring very strong moves in precious metals. Gold has already shown signs of a major move, while silver has also started to gain strongly. At some point, silver could reach very high prices and then fall again. Markets do not move up forever. But the possibility of a much bigger silver cycle is now open.

What History Can Teach Investors

The biggest lesson is that large market moves often look impossible before they happen. Silver has already shown in the past that it can rise several times over a 10-year period. The current move may or may not become another major cycle, but the historical data makes the possibility worth watching. Investors should not assume that $200 or $500 silver is guaranteed. Instead, they can study the cycle, understand the risks and decide how much exposure to precious metals fits their own investment plan.
