Top Stocks, Slow Growth
Many well-known stocks have given little or no returns for many years. Some have stayed flat for four, five, or even seven years. When you look closely, it may feel surprising. These are big names, and people expect them to grow fast. But this kind of phase is normal in the market.
The Habit Problem
A common mistake is getting attached to a stock name. Many people keep holding the same stock just because they believe in it for a long time. Even if it does not move much, they still don’t exit. This habit can hurt the overall portfolio and reduce growth.
Price Matters a Lot
A good company does not always mean a good investment. Sometimes, a good stock is available at a bad price. And sometimes, a weak stock may look attractive only because of a low price. This is why only buying “good names” is not enough. Price and timing also matter.
Look at the Bigger Picture
If you see the last five years, a lot of wealth has been created. Not just in stocks, but also in real estate, gold, and even global markets. There were some slow periods in between, but overall growth has been strong. So saying that no money was made in markets is not correct.
Think Long Term
Equity investing needs patience. A time period of five to seven years is often considered normal. Over this time, returns have generally stayed above average. Short-term ups and downs should not change long-term thinking.
Focus on Total Returns
Instead of looking at one stock, it is better to see the full picture. A mix of different assets like equity, real estate, and gold can help. If overall returns are beating inflation and giving double-digit growth, then things are on the right track. There is no need to panic.
